Workshop 1: Online and hybrid post-COVID

Japan SciCom Forum 2022

Let’s face it: being forced online by the pandemic was not fun. Yet, the benefits in accessibility when meeting online are uncontroversially huge. So what can we do to improve the online experience for events and meetings? In this workshop, we can try out two web-based platforms for online interactions: Gather Town and Mozilla Hubs. Both of these platforms allow people to meet, chat and join activities in a way that feels similar to in-person interactions, and also show how virtual spaces can go “beyond being there” to allow us to meet in places inaccessible to in-person venues.

This workshop is being organised by TFOM: The Future of Meetings. A team of (mainly) academics who are interested in improving online and hybrid experiences. While both Gather and Hubs are accessible from web browsers, Hubs can also be accessed through a VR headset. So if you happen to have a headset, keep it close at hand!
