Workshop 2: Reflecting on Online Communication on Social Media with a SNS Simulation for Digital Media Literacy Education

Japan SciCom Forum 2022

For younger generations, social media services (SNS) are not only a means of communication but an essential tool for information gathering. Although the importance of media literacy education has constantly been increasing, the related curriculum does not reflect the dynamics brought by social media and online environments. This workshop introduces To Share or Not to Share, a social media service simulator designed for use in formal education settings. This tool helps educators bring a new approach to raising awareness and stimulating discussions about social media into the classroom. It also provides students with a playful learning experience and an opportunity to think, reflect on, and improve their online behavior. Workshop participants will have the chance to try out and experience the tool.
